#40 Ha

Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas 24’ X 24” X 1.5”

Every year in the late fall, humpback whales migrate from the frigid, food-rich waters of Alaska to the warmth of Hawaii to have their calves.  When a mother humpback gives birth, she circles around and comes up under her newborn, gently guiding it to the surface for its first breath of warm Hawaiian air.  Perhaps the most powerful force on earth, Mother-instinct is universal among all species.  The title of this piece is "Ha" the Hawaiian word for "breath", a culturally significant concept in Hawaii.  To share breath is considered the force that connects people.  "Ha" features prominently in many Hawaiian words such as "AloHA" and "MaHAlo". -$6950
