#57 Lama Kuhikuhi - Guiding Light
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas 12' x 24' x 1.5"
For hundreds of years, signal fires were lit every night along the Hawaiian coasts, to lead their voyaging canoes home. Some were high on the cliff tops, while others were thought to be closer to the shore. ("Lama" means a light, torch, or lamp while one of the definitions of "kuhikuhi" is "to point out" -- A Guiding Light). You can imagine the excitement among the voyagers when the first glimmer of the fires of home became visible in the distant darkness. - SOLD
